University of Illinois – College of Veterinary Medicine: The Future of Veterinary Medicine – Externship Program This program, offered through several veterinary schools, allows students to explore our hospitals firsthand. We provide opportunities for hands-on experience in surgery, post-operative care, client communication, and veterinary education.
Kremer Veterinary Services Scholarships: Established by Dr. Anthony T. Kremer, Class of 1990, and owner of multiple veterinary practices in the greater Chicagoland area, these scholarships support veterinary students in key areas of the profession. Each year, four scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded to third- and fourth-year students at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. The scholarship categories include:
- Small Animal Surgery – Awarded to a third-year student demonstrating exceptional interest and skill in small animal orthopedic surgery, with plans to pursue a career in private practice.
- Business & Practice Management – Given to a fourth-year student with a strong interest in the economics of veterinary medicine and practice management, fostering the development of successful veterinary entrepreneurs.
- Shelter Medicine – Presented to a student dedicated to improving the health and well-being of animals in shelter environments through medical care and advocacy.
- Telemedicine – Awarded to a student exploring the role of technology in veterinary medicine, with a focus on telehealth services that enhance patient care and accessibility.
Dr. Kremer's goal is to support future veterinarians in these diverse fields, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge to advance the profession.

Rebecca Latham
Rebecca, a first-year student from Lockport, Ilinois, is interested in small animal general practice and shelter medicine. She hopes to combine those interests in her future career. She loves working in animal shelters and cannot wait to make an even bigger impact on the lives of small animals.

Lilia Medvedev
Lily, a third-year student from Israel, is passionate about small animal neurology, neurosurgery, clinical pathology, and research. Lily aspires to advance veterinary medicine through a career in academia and research. She has published a Pathology in Practice article in JAVMA and contributed to research projects in neurology, wildlife medicine, and other fields.

Aleksandra Bysiek
Aleksandra is a fourth-year student from Chicago, Illinois. She is passionate about feline-only medicine and surgery, focusing on neonatal and geriatric care of cats. After graduation, she plans to work in a feline-exclusive hospital and pursue certification in feline medicine from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.

Naomi Esquivel
Naomi, a fourth-year student, plans to return to Chicago to care for small animal and equine species. Naomi has a high interest in surgery and plans to build her skills to perform advanced procedures. She also actively fosters opportunities for unrepresented students in veterinary medicine. Ultimately, Naomi wants to be a practice owner, fulfilling her passion to help animals and her community.

Madison Cole
Madison Cole, from Clanton, Alabama, is a veterinary student at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine who has known since childhood that she was meant to be a veterinarian. Following graduation, she plans to specialize in food animal medicine and surgery through an internship and residency, with the goal of serving rural underserved areas across the United States.

Grace Pechman
Grace Pechman, from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is a veterinary student at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a lifelong passion for animal care. As a student withhearing loss, she founded RUSVM's Hard of Hearing and Deaf Veterinary Students club and is committed to advancing accessibility in veterinary medicine. Grace aspires to work inemergency veterinary medicine and give back to the deaf and hard of hearing community, demonstrating that physical challenges cannot limit professional dreams.

Psi Upsilon Foundation: Empowering Brothers Through Education, Leadership, and ImpactT
The Psi Upsilon Foundation supports the educational mission of Psi Upsilon Fraternity by awarding merit and need-based scholarships, social impact fellowships and grants, and engagement and leadership funding to undergraduate members, graduate students, chapters, and alumni. These programs help brothers pursue academic excellence, leadership development, and service opportunities while advancing the values of the Fraternity. The Foundation also underwrites key educational experiences — including Archons Academy, leadership institutes, and professional development events — and offers travel and engagement grants that expand learning beyond the classroom. Supported through gifts from brothers, families, and friends, the Foundation’s awards and grants aim to reach every member and chapter, reflecting Psi Upsilon’s long-standing commitment to intellectual achievement and meaningful community contribution.

Tuna Ergan
Tuna Ergan graduated with Highest Honors from Georgia Tech in 2023 with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and a minor in Physics (Stellar Astrophysics), completing the International Plan with Russian proficiency and speaking Turkish, English, and intermediate German. A Defne Muhtar Kent and Campoamor Scholar, he held leadership roles across honor societies, student organizations, and Greek life, where he was recognized for strengthening chapter culture, risk management, and judicial processes. Since 2020, Tuna has conducted research at Georgia Tech’s Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory, focusing on electrified and hydrogen-powered aircraft, systems-of-systems engineering, CFD, and virtual experimentation, contributing to FAA, Airbus, and Air Force Research Laboratory projects. Now a graduate researcher with a perfect 4.0 GPA, he is regarded by faculty mentors as an exceptional leader and communicator advancing sustainable aviation, with plans to pursue a PhD.

CHRISTOPHER BUSHNELL
Christopher Bushnell (Upsilon ’23) grew up in a rural community near Syracuse, where limited access to medical care inspired his pursuit of medicine and commitment to serving underserved areas. A 2023 honors graduate in Biology, he will matriculate to Liberty College to study osteopathic medicine, drawn to its holistic approach to treating patients’ mind, body, and spirit. During his undergraduate years, Bushnell worked as a research assistant and genetics teaching aide, volunteered for two years at the Wilmot Cancer Institute providing compassionate patient support, and balanced academics with varsity swimming and outdoor pursuits. Recognized with the 2023 Graduate Merit Scholarship, he aspires to become a trusted rural physician delivering high-quality, accessible, and compassionate care to his community.

Jack Patterson
Jack Patterson (Tau Epsilon ’24) graduated summa cum laude from Clemson with a 4.00 GPA, departmental honors, a psychology minor, and a 97th-percentile MCAT score, earning admission to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he began medical training in 2024. Focused on rural health, research, and global outreach, he has contributed to multiple research teams, publishing a first-author manuscript on healthcare adherence and presenting work on well-being and public health. Jack gained extensive clinical experience through nearly 200 volunteer hours with Clemson Rural Health, work as a Patient Care Technician in MUSC’s acute surgical unit, and research internships in orthopedic surgery, earning recognition from nursing leadership for improving quality of care. A respected leader within Psi Upsilon, he served as Risk Management Chair and judicial board deputy, supporting peers academically and professionally while organizing service initiatives. Known for his analytical rigor, humility, and compassion, Jack is widely regarded as a future physician who will make a meaningful impact in underserved communities.
Empower Scholarship Fund –

Our Journey
Dr. Tony established the Kremer Veterinary Services Scholarship through Empower Scholarship Fund to assist students attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with tuition costs. Eligible students who have demonstrated academic success with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need may apply for one of three scholarship offerings valued at $3,500 annually.
